Ayvazovsky's Canvas Sold for a Record 4.188 Million Pounds Sterling

At a Sotheby’s auction, Ivan Aivazovsky’s painting “The Rescued” has been sold for 4.188 million pounds sterling. “The Rescued” is one of the artist’s largest canvases (195 × 266 cm) ever to appear on the market.

Dating back to 1878, the painting last sold at Sotheby’s in April 2004. It is worth noting that the previous most expensive painting by Aivazovsky sold was “View of Constantinople and the Bosphorus,” which fetched 3.2 million pounds sterling at a Sotheby’s auction in 2012.
