Pope Leo XIV Visits Turkey, Laying a Wreath at Atatürk's Grave
Pope Leo XIV has arrived in Turkey for an official visit. In Ankara, he first visited the Anıtkabir memorial complex, where he laid a wreath on the grave of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey.
Following this, the Pope was received by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During their meeting, the parties discussed issues of interfaith dialogue, peace, and regional stability.
As part of the visit, Leo XIV will preside over a meeting at the headquarters where several events of the 'Holy Spirit' council will be held with the participation of Catholic clergy, as well as visiting a French orphanage.
One of the significant stops during the visit will be the city of Iznik (in Bursa Province), where the Pope will participate in an ecumenical liturgy dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the Nicaea Council.
The Pope's visit to Turkey will last until Sunday, after which he plans to travel to Lebanon.
