Tigran Avinyan Addresses High Air Pollution Levels in Yerevan

In recent days, there have been various concerns regarding high air pollution levels in Yerevan. This was announced by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, who spoke about the growing worries surrounding air pollution in the city.

“It should be clearly stated that pollution is characteristic not only of Yerevan but also of the Ararat Valley, which includes the provinces of Ararat, Armavir, and Aragatsotn, as well as adjacent regions. Air pollution in this area has a distinctly seasonal nature and is primarily influenced by geographical factors, including the circulation of air masses, dry anticyclonic weather, and especially the influx of dry, dusty air masses from the southeast, along with the relief conditions,” he said.

“These natural processes are cyclical and recur every year with varying intensity. Due to these factors, an inversion regime is formed, almost halting air circulation, which leads to the continuous accumulation of air pollution. Additionally, during this season, the increase in gases, organic dust, and smoke from heating, fires, and burning exacerbates the situation in the absence of proper air exchange.”

“Air pollution in the region will decrease with the arrival of cyclonic air masses from the north, leading to the breakdown of the air inversion layer. We will continue to provide updates on the measures being taken by the Yerevan Municipality to mitigate this issue,” he added.
