Three Major Obstacles Remain in Peace Talks Between Kyiv and Washington
Although Ukraine has generally accepted most of the peace proposals from the U.S. (during the Trump administration), a Ukrainian source has informed CNN that at least three fundamental disagreements persist. These pertain to the transfer of certain areas in Donbas, the limitation of armed forces numbers, and the demand to renounce NATO membership.
According to the source, these points are considered by Russia to be the main conditions for stopping the war; however, Ukraine does not view compromises on these issues, particularly the demand to abandon NATO membership, as acceptable.
While some progress has been made on territorial issues, a final acceptable formulation has not yet been found. Regarding the limitation of army size, Kyiv seeks further clarifications. According to the newspaper's assessment, these disagreements are much more serious than “a few minor details.”
