Simonyan Expresses Willingness to Travel to Azerbaijan at a Suitable Time
The President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, stated during a press briefing that he is prepared to travel to Azerbaijan at a suitable time and invite his counterpart, Sahiba Gafarova, to Armenia in any format.
When asked if he received an invitation to visit Azerbaijan, Simonyan replied that there has been no such invitation, but he is ready to discuss it if it arises. In response to a journalist's question about whether he finds it normal to visit Azerbaijan while Armenian captives are still held there, Simonyan reacted, "What do I mean by discussing?"
He also noted that Azerbaijan's non-participation in the European Political Community summit scheduled for May 2026 in Yerevan is not related to Armenia. According to Simonyan, the Azerbaijani side has indicated that this is related to their relations with the European Union, and Gafarova asked to convey on behalf of the president that this decision has no connection with the Armenian side.
The President of the National Assembly reminded that he had previously mentioned that he considers it possible for senior officials from Armenia and Azerbaijan to exchange visits to Yerevan and Baku, but that it is necessary to resolve the issue of Armenian individuals held in Azerbaijan first.
