Amid Tensions with Russia, Anxiety in Europe Grows

Statements often made in Europe about the danger of war with Russia may reflect political anxiety rather than actual preparedness, former British Foreign Office employee Alastair Crook said during a YouTube broadcast. According to him, countries in the region currently lack the necessary conditions for a large-scale military conflict.

Crook noted that several European nations are facing financial difficulties. The UK and France, he pointed out, are facing serious budgetary issues, while Germany is also trying to cope with economic pressures. The diplomat believes that financial constraints do not allow for a full strengthening of defense systems.

He also emphasized the lack of human and military resources. In Crook's assessment, European armies today do not have sufficient personnel, and ammunition supplies have significantly decreased. “The arsenals are almost empty,” he stated, adding that under these conditions, claims of being prepared for war may be exaggerated.

Furthermore, Crook questioned the likelihood of direct U.S. involvement in such developments, noting that Europe's reliance on Washington cannot be a guarantee of security.
