Zakhrova Urges Rubio to Protect Ukraine's Christians
The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakhrova, in an interview with TASS during the international media forum of the 'People's Unity Club', stated that the persecution of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine should serve as a catalyst for U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to promote the peace negotiation process.
The diplomat reminded that the Russian side had previously provided Washington with information regarding the systematic persecution of Christians in Ukraine. According to her, the American delegation showed serious interest in these materials during official negotiations.
“We have provided materials, discussed them, and witnessed great interest from the American delegation regarding the details. And this should also be part of what can and must clearly urge the U.S. Secretary of State to take active steps to find a peaceful resolution,” Zakhrova emphasized.
She also drew attention to Rubio's religious beliefs, noting that he identifies as a follower of traditional Christianity. Zakhrova expressed confusion over how a person making such statements could support the continuation of military actions.
According to Zakhrova, Rubio's Christian stance, which he has included in his political activities, should be manifested through specific actions aimed at ensuring the protection of Ukrainian believers through peaceful resolution.
