Trump's Path Highlights His Personal Interest in the Regional Peace Process

The United States is increasing its interest in the South Caucasus and Central Asia, as evidenced by the expansion of the regional cooperation format C5+1 to include C6+1, with Azerbaijan's involvement. This statement was made by John E. Herbst, senior director of the Atlantic Council's Eurasia Center, during the first forum of U.S.-Azerbaijan analytical centers.

According to Herbst, President Donald Trump's administration is seeking to play a more active role in global hotspots, particularly in the consolidation of peace in the South Caucasus. He recalled the meeting held in the Oval Office on August 8, resulting in leaders from the U.S., Azerbaijan, and Armenia signing a document to promote the Baku-Yerevan peace process.

“Trump's path underscores his personal commitment to advancing the peace process in the region. Washington is currently deepening its relations with both Azerbaijan and Armenia, which contributes to regional stability and the development of economic cooperation,” Herbst noted.

He emphasized that the normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia is also crucial for overall regional stability. Herbst added that the launch of the first U.S.-Azerbaijan analytical centers forum, as well as the formation of the C6+1 structure, opens a new chapter for collaboration among the expert communities of Washington, Baku, and Central Asian countries.
