Why were Su-30 SM fighter jets purchased? The Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, stated that the Armenian Ministry of Defense's General Staff requested the Su aircraft in writing for defensive purposes.

“Does it seem to you that inside the government building, the Prime Minister or anyone else saw it and said, 'Wow, what a beautiful Su, should we get one?'” said Alen Simonian.

He also added that the army requested what it needed, and the government fulfilled that request, refuting claims that the General Staff sought UAVs and other armaments that were not purchased.
