Pentagon Chief Announces Launch of Military Operation

Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth has announced the launch of a new operation against drug traffickers in the Western Hemisphere, named "Southern Spear," as reported by DW, citing Hegseth's remarks.

"This mission will defend our homeland, remove drug terrorists from our hemisphere, and protect our country from drugs that are killing our people. The Western Hemisphere is American territory, and we will defend it," Hegseth wrote in a post on the X social media platform.

According to the U.S. Secretary of Defense, the operation will be led by a specially formed task force and the U.S. Southern Command.
