Egypt to Double the Cost of Entry Visas: Details
The Egyptian Parliament has approved a bill to increase fees charged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which could raise the cost of tourist visas from $20 to $45 after the New Year. The bill aims to utilize revenue from tourist fees for the modernization of Egypt's diplomatic missions abroad.
According to Egypt Today, the House of Representatives of Egypt has accepted amendments to the bill drafted by the government, which will significantly increase the cost of entry visas. The final decision is now awaiting approval from Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
The bill pertains to consular fees for services provided by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It proposes charging $20 or the equivalent in foreign currency for each entry or transit visa issued by Egyptian authorities at entry ports.
As a result, the cost of an entry visa, which currently stands at $25, could nearly double to reach $45. The bill aims to redistribute revenues and direct funds generated from tourist fees towards the development and modernization of Egypt's diplomatic missions, embassies, and consulates abroad.
