Turkish Firefighting Plane Crashes in Croatia, Pilot Killed
The Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumakli, has announced that remnants of a firefighting plane belonging to the General Directorate of Forestry have been discovered in Croatia, with which radio contact had been lost. He added that the pilot has died.
At 22:31, contact was lost with the firefighting plane belonging to Turkey's General Directorate of Forestry. This was reported in a statement from the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. According to the ministry, two AT802 firefighting planes flew to Croatia for technical maintenance, but one of them soon disappeared from the radar.
“The plane departed from Çanakkale to Zagreb Airport on the morning of November 12. Due to adverse weather conditions, they made a stop at Rijeka Airport. Today, both planes returned to Zagreb, but due to worsening weather, they decided to return. One plane safely returned to Rijeka, but contact was lost with the other at 18:25,” the ministry's statement read.
