Military Positions are Being Reinforced with Modern Equipment, Increasing the Security Level of Border Guards: Suren Papikyan

The Minister of Defense of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, announced during the parliamentary discussions on the draft budget for 2026 that Armenia will use its armaments and military to protect the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty. He stated that the reasonable replenishment and modernization of the army are strategic priorities for the state.

According to Papikyan, cooperation with the local defense industry has significantly increased in recent years, saying, "If the volume of contracts in 2022 was around 5.5 billion drams, today, thanks to three-year contracts, it has reached 171 billion drams." He emphasized that military positions are being reinforced with modern equipment, which enhances the safety level of border guards.

“The new and ultra-modern equipment makes the service of the personnel stationed safer and raises the level of protection of the state border. Armenia is expanding its military-technical cooperation, and the diversification of armaments remains a key direction of the security system,” Papikyan added.

Papikyan also discussed the improvement of social security for military personnel, highlighting that, as a result of the certification process, contract servicemen can receive bonuses ranging from 205,000 to 470,000 drams. According to him, 65 percent of servicemen have already been certified. The minister added that trust in the army has increased, thanks to the legal and simplified conscription process.
