BBC’s Director General and News Head Resign

The Director General of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Tim Davie, and the head of BBC News, Deborah Turness, have resigned amid controversies surrounding former President Donald Trump's edited speech that aired on BBC Panorama, as reported by the BBC.

“BBC is not perfect, and we must always be open, transparent, and accountable. While this is not the only reason, the ongoing dispute around BBC News has understandably impacted my decision. Overall, BBC is a good organization, but some mistakes have been made, and as Director General, I must take ultimate responsibility,” Davie wrote in his letter.

He noted that he is currently working with the board to agree on a timeline for his departure to ensure a smooth transition for a new leader in the coming months.

For her part, Deborah Turness stated that “the ongoing controversy over the Panorama report about Trump is damaging to the BBC, an organization I care deeply about. While mistakes have been made, the accusations of bias in BBC News are false. I take full responsibility,” she wrote, adding that she submitted her resignation to Tim Davie on Saturday.

Donald Trump responded on his TruthSocial platform, stating, “Everyone is resigning or being fired because they were caught distorting my very good (EXCELLENT) speech on January 6. They are dishonest people who tried to interfere in the presidential election.”
