Narek Karapetyan's Interview with Tucker Carlson: Pressures on Armenia
Narek Karapetyan, the coordinator of the "Our Way" movement, gave an interview to American journalist Tucker Carlson, during which he spoke about the Armenian genocide, the arrests of clergy in Armenia, the detention of Samvel Karapetyan, and several other issues.
Karapetyan mentioned his uncle, Samvel Karapetyan, and several clergy members who, according to him, are under pressure from the authorities. "My uncle Samvel Karapetyan and the clergy can be released tomorrow if they say they are not affiliated with the church," he noted, emphasizing that loyalty to the church has today become a symbol of courage and dignity.
In his interview with Tucker Carlson, Narek Karapetyan pointed out that anti-church actions being implemented in Armenia are aimed at distorting historical memory and weakening the church's influence. According to him, some actions by the Armenian authorities are carried out under the influence of external forces.
He insisted that certain circles receive information and clear instructions from Turkey and Azerbaijan, aiming to change the narratives of the church, forget the Armenian genocide, and appoint a new church leader who would agree to a peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
"We feel that they want to change the church leader, then change the church narratives and force our people to forget everything that our ancestors have done for our Christian faith," Karapetyan said. According to him, this is part of a broader plan aimed at destroying historical truth by presenting peace as a justification for such actions.
Karapetyan stated that the Armenian people are ready for peace but cannot accept it while forgetting the memory of one and a half million victims. "One and a half million people were killed for their religion in the Ottoman Empire. Turkey must acknowledge this, for only after that can we live in a peaceful region," he noted.
He emphasized that the real path to peace starts from the restoration of historical justice, not its forgetfulness. Karapetyan highlighted that their movement receives significant support from the West and Christian churches. "There is a lot of support, and we are grateful for it," he said.
He also stressed that their struggle is not only political but also spiritual and moral, aimed at preserving national identity. According to Narek Karapetyan, the church is not just a religious structure but also the spiritual and historical foundation of the Armenian people. He is convinced that actions directed against the church are aimed at weakening Armenian identity and rewriting history, and defending the church today means defending national dignity and historical truth.
