Baku Refuses to Send Peacekeepers to Gaza

Azerbaijan does not plan to send its peacekeeping troops to the Gaza Strip until the hostilities between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement completely cease. According to Reuters, citing Azerbaijani sources, Baku does not want to put its soldiers in danger.

“This can only happen if there is a complete cessation of military operations,” the agency's source stated. He noted that such a decision could only be made with the approval of the country's parliament.

The head of the parliamentary security committee has indicated that the committee has not yet received the relevant bill. The agency also reported that the U.S., under a peace plan for Gaza initiated by President Donald Trump, is negotiating with Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, and the UAE regarding the possible formation of an International Stabilization Forces (ISAF) comprising around 20,000 soldiers.
