Serbia's President Ready for Early Elections
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced that he is prepared to organize parliamentary elections before the current parliament's term ends.
According to him, "respecting the demands of the significant minority of protesters in our country, we will meet them halfway, and the elections will be held ahead of schedule."
It is noteworthy that protests in Serbia have been ongoing since November 2024, following the collapse of a roof at the Novi Sad railway station, which resulted in 16 deaths. Protesters are demanding early elections, publication of all documents related to the station's reconstruction, accountability for officials involved in the tragedy, and the release of those arrested during the protests.
Since mid-August, the demonstrations have escalated into clashes with police. In various cities, opposition members have attacked and set fire to the offices of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party.
