Italy Summons Russian Ambassador Over Zakharova's Remarks
The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Russian ambassador to the country in response to remarks made by Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, following the collapse of the medieval Torre dei Conti in Rome.
The incident occurred on November 3 in central Rome. Following the collapse, Zakharova posted on her Telegram channel that Italy's support for Ukraine, including military assistance and payments through EU mechanisms, amounts to approximately €2.5 billion. She added that as long as the Italian government continues to waste taxpayer money in a senseless manner, Italy will completely collapse, starting from its economy down to its towers.
Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani referred to Zakharova's comments as “to put it mildly, vulgar.” He emphasized that one should not exploit people's grief during tragic events. “We have never acted this way when disasters have occurred in Russia,” Tajani remarked.
