Armenia–Azerbaijan Demarcation Process Becomes Success Story: Pashinyan

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced during the "Orbelian Forum 2025" that the success story between Armenia and Azerbaijan began in 2024 with the initiation of the demarcation process in the Tavush region. He recalled that at the time the process sparked intense discussions and criticisms, but it is now viewed as a positive example.

“That process triggered a lot of vigorous discussions and criticisms in Armenia. But I must say that, no matter how challenging it was to explain to the public what was happening and why, today what has transpired is a success story for us,” Pashinyan stated.

The Prime Minister informed that under his direction, public institutions are organizing visits to the demarcated Kiranț and surrounding areas, involving civil society, intellectuals, and political figures. The goal of these visits, according to him, is to showcase the real outcomes of the peace agenda on the ground.

Pashinyan noted that in 2024, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed the regulations for the joint operations of demarcation commissions, which have been ratified in both countries. He emphasized that this was the first international document signed between the two states that has legal force.

According to him, the foundation of the demarcation agreement is based on the 1991 Almaty Declaration, wherein both parties recognize each other's territorial integrity. He stated that a crucial event on this path was the Peace Summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025, which resulted in the adoption of a declaration and a preliminary signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
