Torgom Asatryan Sentenced to 5 Years and 6 Months for Assaulting Ararat Mirzoyan

The accused in the case of Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan's assault, Torgom Asatryan, has been sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison. This decision was made today by the first instance general jurisdiction court of Yerevan, presided over by Judge Zhora Chichoyan.

The prosecutor had requested the maximum penalty of 7 years, indicating that Asatryan committed the crime as part of a group, with particular brutality and under conditions of martial law.

The defense presented various facts regarding Torgom Asatryan's biography, including his diplomas and medals, stating that he excelled in school, achieved sports success, and has been a champion in mixed martial arts (MMA) multiple times, as well as a master of eastern martial arts.

It is worth noting that Torgom Asatryan has been in custody since February 2023. Additionally, Asatryan has been in detention for approximately 3 years.
