Russia and Japan Discuss Resumption of Direct Flights

Russian and Japanese airlines are discussing the launch of direct flights between the two countries, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko told the Izvestia newspaper.

Mr. Rudenko clarified that everything depends on the position of the Japanese government. He reiterated that the Russian side has "not canceled or prohibited Japanese companies from flying to Russia; it was Tokyo's decision."

"Consultations and work are ongoing between the companies. As soon as they are ready, please know we have no objections," the deputy minister noted.

Japanese airlines suspended flights in Russian airspace following the start of Russian military operations in Ukraine. This week, 128 South Korean and foreign non-commercial organizations also requested the resumption of direct air communications with Russia.
