Merz Shares EU Concerns About Use of Russia's Frozen Assets

Germany shares Belgium's concerns regarding the use of frozen foreign assets of Russia. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated this upon arriving at the EU summit, as reported by TASS.

“The Prime Minister of Belgium and I have discussed this issue multiple times in recent days and weeks, and I share his concerns,” he emphasized.

At the same time, Merz noted that he expects a “step forward” within the EU regarding the use of Russia's foreign assets for the benefit of Kyiv.

On October 23, De Wever stated that Belgium would prohibit the confiscation of frozen assets if the European Union (EU) does not share the risks. The politician also reminded that “even during World War II, no one touched frozen assets.”

Moreover, according to De Wever, if Russian funds are utilized, EU countries should be prepared for retaliatory measures against Western assets in Russia and its allies.
