I Do Not Insist That You Change Your Name. I Have Proven My Statement. Rubinyan to Gegham Manukyan
The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Ruben Rubinyan, believes that the name Gegham is very beautiful and suits the MP from the 'Armenia' faction, Gegham Manukyan, very well.
It is noteworthy that prior to this, Gegham Manukyan had stated that he would change his name if Ruben Rubinyan could prove his statement that the ARF and other traditional parties had opposed Armenia's independence in their declaration in 1988.
Ruben Rubinyan responded to this statement: 'Mr. Manukyan, God is my witness, I didn’t want to, because I believe that the name Gegham is very beautiful and suits you very well. But look, the source: I am currently reading from the Ani Research Center's website, which is run by the well-known journalist Tatul Hakobyan. I am sure he has also cited his sources.'
Rubinyan quoted the words of the representative of the ARF Bureau, Hrayr Marukhian, from 1988: 'The ARF considers independence to be its main goal, but we believe that it is not the appropriate time to demand independence when our people are in such need of the help of the Russian people. To understand this, one must go to the banks of the Akhuryan River and see the Turkish soldiers standing opposite and the ruins of Ani.'
