Taguhi Ghazaryan on the Dismissal of Father Aram
Armenian National Assembly MP Taguhi Ghazaryan spoke with Factor about the ongoing tensions between high-ranking secular and spiritual authorities. The MP does not accept that the Civil Contract Party (CPP) is at fault in this matter, stating: “The blame lies with the Catholicos, who has made political speeches and has delivered political blows, receiving counterattacks in return. The tension is escalating and will continue until someone wins.”
She remarked that the church hierarchy has heightened tensions by using terms such as “traitor” and “capitulator,” thus crossing an irretrievable line. “I hope Garegin II will be nominated in the 2026 parliamentary elections. Father Aram has been sacrificed, so that there would not be an anointed priest present in Hovhannavank during the Prime Minister’s visit; it was a meaningless sacrifice. Dismissing Father Aram constituted a violation of labor rights, and he should have been notified two months in advance,” Taguhi Ghazaryan stated.
