We have appealed to ambassadors accredited in Armenia regarding the case of lawyer Alexander Kochubayev: Poghosyan
Today, we have appealed to the ambassadors accredited in the Republic of Armenia regarding the case of lawyer Alexander Kochubayev. This was reported by Abgar Poghosyan, a member of Alexander Kochubayev's defense team.
“Given the gross violation of lawyer Alexander Kochubayev's rights, the unlawful manner of his arrest, and the disproportionate nature of the currently selected measure of restraint, today we have appealed to the ambassadors of all countries accredited in the Republic of Armenia, whose states have ratified the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
Our expectation is to draw the international community's attention to the events occurring with respect to a person engaged in human rights advocacy, which are without any legal basis and aimed at creating a climate of fear in society, intending to obstruct lawyers from freely carrying out their professional duties. The legal community, as a cornerstone of a rule of law, must be free from political pressures and persecution. We have called on the ambassadors to raise their voices and keep the ongoing events in focus. We will continue to fight for our colleague’s rights using all legal means,” wrote lawyer Abgar Poghosyan.
