Ministry of Education Warns School Directors in Gyumri
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Armenia urges educational institutions to ensure uninterrupted educational processes while adhering to legislative requirements. The department issued a statement on its Facebook page.
Earlier, it was reported that law enforcement officials had stormed the Gyumri City Hall to detain Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan. According to the Anti-Corruption Committee, eight individuals have been arrested on charges of receiving large bribes from a group of officials and offering bribes to them.
Not long ago, Ghukasyan himself exited the City Hall building and approached the law enforcement vehicles.
The Ministry reports having received alerts that some preschools in Gyumri have not fully organized their educational processes, sending children home early and urging parents or staff to participate in a public rally.
“These actions violate the right to education of children and the requirements of Armenian legislation regulating the education sector, which prohibits party, political, and religious propaganda, as well as the holding of political events in educational institutions,” the statement from the ministry reads.
The Ministry is calling on directors and staff to exercise political restraint. The department warns all educational institution directors to ensure an uninterrupted educational process, noting that they intend to report to law enforcement based on these alerts.
