Trump Does Not Respond on Whether Ukraine Should Cede Territories to Russia
U.S. President Donald Trump refrained from answering the question of whether Ukraine should cede territories as part of a peace agreement with Russia, marking the latest in a series of changing opinions on the issue, CNN reports.
"War is a very interesting thing. You never know what’s going to happen," Trump said.
In August, prior to a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he stated that a "territorial exchange" would be necessary to end the war. Later, he reversed his position, saying he believes Ukraine can reclaim all its territories.
Today's response suggests that before offering another opinion, the president is waiting and monitoring the progress of the negotiations. According to Sky News, Trump remarked that it is an "honor" to be alongside a "strong leader," referring to Zelenskyy, someone he knows very well.
"I think we are making tremendous progress. From my standpoint, everything is going quite well. Everything started in Alaska, where certain principles may have been discussed," Trump noted.
