A New Multimodal Transport Route Launched Between Armenia and Kazakhstan

A new multimodal transport route has been launched between Armenia and Kazakhstan, connecting the two countries through Turkmenistan and Iran. This was stated by Kaiyrbolat Sahmetov, president of the Astana Diplomatic Club, in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.

According to him, the idea for the route was born during the Kazakh-Armenian business forum, and several companies are now successfully utilizing the new direction.

“Cargo from China arrives in Kazakhstan via the Khorgos checkpoint, then it passes through Turkmenistan and Iran, before heading to Armenia,” Sahmetov explained.

The route has two operational branches: China (Khorgos) – Kazakhstan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Armenia and China – Kazakhstan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Armenia. Both routes, according to Sahmetov, have already been tested and demonstrated high efficiency.

The new variant of cargo transportation takes 9 to 20 days, making it a fast alternative to existing routes, where delivery can take up to 45 days.

Sahmetov emphasized the importance of further strengthening cooperation between Armenia and Kazakhstan, as well as the development of trade and business relations within the Eurasian Economic Union. He noted that the new multimodal route strengthens Armenia's logistical connections with Central Asia and China, opening up additional opportunities for export, transit, and integration into the Eurasian transportation area.

Earlier, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan announced during the 11th session of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Armenia and Kazakhstan (held online) that Yerevan supports the establishment of a multimodal freight transport route from Kazakhstan to Armenia.
