Supporters of the 'In Our Way' Movement Go to Support Clergy
Coordinator of the 'In Our Way' movement, Narek Karapetyan, has arrived at the Central seat of the First Instance General Jurisdiction Court of Yerevan following the court's decision to extend the detention of his uncle, businessman Samvel Karapetyan.
This court is currently reviewing the request for the detention of Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan, the head of the Aragatsotn Diocese.
Recall that on the morning of October 15, law enforcement conducted a search at the residence of Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan, subsequently detaining him. In addition to the bishop, 12 priests from the Aragatsotn Diocese and staff members of the diocese were also detained. Later, the Investigative Committee announced that three individuals had been arrested, one of whom is the diocese leader. Public criminal prosecution has been initiated against him under two articles of the Criminal Code for obstructing the exercise of electoral rights by using his official position and compelling participation in gatherings using authority or official powers.
Currently, requests for the detention of the bishop of Aragatsotn, the head of the diocese's chancellery, Father Garegin Arsenyan, and the diocese's accountant are being reviewed under the chairmanship of Judge Karen Farhoyan at the first instance general jurisdiction criminal court of Yerevan.
