Judges Ordered to Stand Duty at Court for One Week

According to an order from Zhora Chichoyan, acting president of the Court of First Instance, all judges of the first instance courts in Yerevan are required to be on duty at the court for one week. Such a measure was previously implemented during the arrest of Samvel Karapetyan.

It is likely that Court President Mnatsakan Martirosyan believes that numerous motions will be submitted, warranting all courts to be on standby to issue detention sanctions swiftly. Recently, 12 clergymen were detained, prompting this new directive, possibly in anticipation of a high volume of motions.

The Supreme Judicial Council noted that the purpose of this order is to ensure the normal functioning of the Court of First Instance in Yerevan, balance the workload, and make the duty regarding the examination of pre-trial motions, appeals, and operational investigative measures more effective. This information was reported by the newspaper “Hayrapet”.
