Police Seize Approximately 11.5 Kilograms of Illegal Drugs; Arrests Made
The Criminal Police have seized approximately 11.5 kilograms of illegal drugs. Four individuals have been arrested.
The operation was carried out in cooperation with the Anti-Narcotic Division of the Criminal Police in Yerevan, following operational information received regarding the illegal drug trade.
According to the information, a large quantity of narcotics was being smuggled into Armenia from the Islamic Republic of Iran for distribution.
Officers from the National Security Service of Syunik and Shirak regions, as well as employees from the Investigative Committee and the Patrol Service of the Police, also participated in the operation.
On October 11, two men, aged 43 and 35, along with a 39-year-old foreigner, were arrested in the capital. They were taken to the investigative body along with the vehicles driven by the 35-year-old man and the foreigner.
During a search conducted as part of the initiated criminal proceedings, three packages weighing a total of 8 kilograms and 370 grams were found in the 35-year-old man's car. Of that, five kilograms was methamphetamine, and three kilograms and 370 grams were substances resembling marijuana.
And this was not the end of it. Continuing the operational activity, a 50-year-old man from the capital was also arrested on suspicion of smuggling and distributing significant amounts of narcotics, along with his vehicle, and was taken to the investigative body.
The next day, following a court order, a search was conducted of the vehicle, resulting in the discovery of a package containing two kilograms and fifty grams of methamphetamine-like substances.
All suspects have been detained. On October 12, again under a court order, a search was carried out at the cottage rented by the 39-year-old foreigner located in Ejmiatsin, where 238 grams of heroin, 144 grams of opium, and 761 grams of substances resembling marijuana were found. The investigation is ongoing to clarify the circumstances.
