Samvel Karapetyan's Legal Team Issues Statement

On August 15, 2025, the Anti-Corruption Court extended the detention of national benefactor and businessman Samvel Karapetyan for another two months. It should be noted that the Court has recorded that even a well-founded suspicion regarding the economic offenses attributed to him has not been overcome. However, at the same time, it has 'surprisingly' validated the part of the accusation which qualifies Karapetyan's interview defending the Mother See as a call.

This was stated in a press release by Samvel Karapetyan's legal team. 'The appellate court has recorded a similar stance—rejecting both our and the prosecutor's appeals. Both the defense and the prosecution have submitted cassation complaints. It is noteworthy that the prosecutor's submission of a cassation complaint should only occur in exceptional cases. It appears that it is not sufficient for the prosecution that Samvel Karapetyan has been detained for nearly 110 days; they also need the absurd economic accusation confirmed by well-founded suspicion.'

It should also be noted that since August 15, 2025, the investigative body comprising more than 50 investigators has not undertaken any actions involving Samvel Karapetyan, rejecting our requests to conduct procedural actions. Without dismissing the episodes related to the economic offenses, that is, simply ignoring the court's mandatory orders, the investigative body recently set a new threshold for ongoing unlawful conduct: they presented another economic accusation with no connection to any provided data, lacking any minimum legal and lawful basis.

These actions are outside the realm of legal logic. The indisputable fact of political persecution against Samvel Karapetyan has been confirmed by public promises of revenge against him on social media dated June 17, 2025, and directives given to law enforcement agencies. It is also worth noting that even when the defense had no data regarding the extension of the detention request, a government-affiliated media outlet had already published such data, 'referring to its sources.'
