Authorities Trying to Link Sevak Khachatryan with the 'Previous Regime' - 'Zhoghovurd'
Following the dismissal of former Ejmiadzin mayor Diana Gasparyan, Ejmiadzin is set to have a new leader. This position has been vacant since May, according to the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper.
“An extraordinary election for the Vagarshapat city council is scheduled for November 16. The main competitor for the authorities is Sevak Khachatryan, who leads the ‘Victory’ alliance of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and the right-wing ‘Arar’ party. Khachatryan has a substantial following in Ejmiadzin and, according to government social surveys, he is leading in the polls. The government candidate, Argishti Mekhakyan, is also concerned about Khachatryan's rating.
Currently, the authorities are doing everything possible to associate Sevak Khachatryan with the 'previous regime', trying to tarnish his image in every possible way. Six political forces have already submitted applications to participate in the Vagarshapat mayoral elections,” the newspaper reported.
