Ministry of Emergency Situations on Firefighting Operations at Nubarashen Landfill
Firefighters continue to carry out firefighting operations at the Nubarashen landfill. As of October 11 at 20:00, under the instruction of Minister of Emergency Situations Arpine Sargsyan, the units of the Ministry's rescue service are conducting intensive firefighting actions in an area of about 2 hectares near the Nubarashen household waste landfill in Yerevan.
During the firefighting efforts, the Ministry's rescue service is effectively cooperating with the employees of the Yerevan Municipality. The work on site is coordinated by the Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations, Kamo Tsutsulyan.
Throughout the day, approximately 374 tons of water have been used, and about 300 trips of soil dumping have been carried out to prevent the spread of the fire. There is no open flame; however, there are smoldering hotspots, and the volume of smoke has decreased.
The firefighting operations involve 10 combat teams and 3 operational groups, with a total of 77 rescuers, as well as the forces of the Yerevan Municipality equipped with water carriers and engineering equipment.
It is worth noting that on October 9 at 23:53, the National Crisis Management Center received a report regarding a fire that broke out at the Nubarashen landfill. As a result of the operational response, firefighters managed to limit the spread of the fire in the first hours, covering an area of about 2 hectares of household waste burning zone. In the initial days, 6 combat teams, 1 operational group, and 29 rescue workers, as well as 11 heavy-duty vehicles, 2 water carriers, and 5 engineering vehicles from the Yerevan Municipality were involved. A total of 55 truckloads of soil have been transported to the fire scene, and approximately 50 tons of water has been delivered.
The firefighting efforts are currently continuing with the same intensity.
