The Trump administration has commenced previously announced layoffs of federal employees due to the ongoing government shutdown, as stated by Russell Vought, director of the Office of Management and Budget.

"The layoffs have begun," he wrote on his social media page. Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources, that a group of Republican congress members had warned the White House about the potential decline in Republican approval ratings due to the layoffs planned during the government shutdown.
