Erdogan Offers $100 Million to the U.S. to Suspend Turkish Bank's Legal Case
'Halkbank' has offered the U.S. $100 million for the 'resolution' of its legal case, reported the British news agency 'Reuters'.
The U.S. case against 'Halkbank' was initiated in 2019 by a New York federal court, concerning the circumvention of sanctions imposed on Iran. According to the agency, the proposal was made personally by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.
Alongside additional terms and conditions, it was emphasized that 'Halkbank' should not be found guilty under any circumstance. It should be noted that the Turkish bank is accused of assisting Iran in evading American sanctions imposed regarding its nuclear program. 'Halkbank' categorically denies the allegations of fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy.
