Deployment of Troops in Afghanistan is Unacceptable, Lavrov Says

The deployment of military infrastructure from third countries on the territory of Afghanistan is deemed unacceptable in Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated.

“We confirm the absolute unacceptability of the deployment of third countries’ military infrastructure in Afghanistan and also in the territories of its neighboring states under any pretext,” he said at the seventh meeting in the Moscow format, which opened consultations on Afghanistan.

The minister emphasized that the presence of extra-regional players can lead to destabilization and new conflicts.

He also urged Western countries to contribute to the recovery of Afghanistan's economy, return what has been appropriated, and take responsibility for the post-conflict reconstruction of Afghanistan, as well as compensating for the damage inflicted on the country's economy and infrastructure over decades.
