The Topic of Refugees' Return Is Dangerous for the Peace Process, Prime Minister
I do not consider the return of refugees to Nagorno-Karabakh realistic; I find it more important to honestly tell people about this, because they need to build their outlook and plans. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Pashinyan deemed the general topic of the return of refugees dangerous for the peace process.
“Because conflicts, including the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, began with the raising of humanitarian issues and evolved into the long-standing conflict we all know. My understanding is that Armenia and Azerbaijan have recognized each other's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and inviolability of borders based on the Alma-Ata Declaration, and we need to focus on implementing this formula. In the coming decades, Armenia and Azerbaijan simply need to leave each other alone and focus on economic cooperation and gradually building dialogue. Meanwhile, our compatriots from Nagorno-Karabakh need to settle in the Republic of Armenia and live, create, and build their future as citizens of the Republic of Armenia. This is our strategy,” said Pashinyan.
