Political Persecution and Total Inaction in Samvel Karapetyan's Case - Human Rights Defender

Businessman Samvel Karapetyan has been clearly unlawfully detained for over 100 days, writes human rights defender Aram Vardevanyan.

“In September 2025, several petitions and applications were submitted to the head of the investigative group (including to the President of the Investigative Committee) and to the head of the department overseeing the prosecution (including the Attorney General). The main requirement is one - to ensure minimal diligence and legality in conducting investigative actions. I can state that the investigation, which has lasted more than 100 days, does not differ in any way from June 17, 2025. This means we are facing political persecution, total inaction, exclusively for the purpose of the illegal maintenance of detention, based on 'Facebook justice.'”

“I have repeatedly insisted, and I still insist, that in Somalia, there has not been a case recorded with the same scale of illegality similar to that of S. Karapetyan's case. Therefore, discussing democratic values in this case in Armenia is simply the simplest formula for verifying actual life,” Vardevanyan wrote.
