Iran Officially Responds to Restoration of UN Sanctions
Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Sunday in response to the restoration of UN sanctions and the activation of the so-called "snapback" mechanism, according to Mehr news agency.
The Islamic Republic's foreign ministry emphasized that the actions of three European countries (the United Kingdom, Germany, France) and the United States, which abuse the "snapback" mechanism, are illegal and baseless. The ministry noted that the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 and the restrictions included therein, which pertain to Iran's peaceful nuclear program, should be considered null and void within the established timeframe.
The ministry added that although the three European countries have activated the mechanism known as "snapback" at the urging and pressure of the United States, they have themselves fundamentally violated their obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) due to persistent and serious disruptions in fulfilling those obligations and have abused the dispute resolution process of the JCPOA.
Furthermore, by "openly or indirectly supporting the Zionist regime and the military aggression of the United States against Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities, which were included in the safeguards of the JCPOA and the IAEA, the three European countries have grossly violated international law and the non-proliferation regime, particularly Article 4 of Article 2 of the UN Charter, and have explicitly violated the provisions of the JCPOA and UN Security Council Resolution 2231."
