Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant Without External Power for Three Days, Experts Warn

A scenario similar to Japan's Fukushima nuclear disaster is possible at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant. The Guardian, citing the International Atomic Energy Agency, reports that the Zaporizhia NPP has been without external electricity for three days. Power lines have been cut, and the plant is operating solely on diesel generators.

The cooling and safety systems are still functioning within permissible limits, but experts warn that if the generators fail, the fuel could begin to overheat. This brings the situation close to a repeated Fukushima disaster, where malfunctions and generator outages led to the meltdown of three reactors and the evacuation of 100,000 people.

The Ukrainian side's electricity transmission line is operational, but the Russian side, according to the publication, is intentionally not reconnecting the plant to external power supply. It is worth recalling that on March 11, 2011, Japan experienced the most terrifying earthquake in its history, measuring 9 on the Richter scale. The natural disaster caused damage to the Fukushima-1 nuclear plant, leading to the release of radioactive materials.
