Azerbaijan Appeals to Turkey
Azerbaijani society is deeply saddened by the flow of misinformation that is characteristic of Russian, Iranian, Armenian, and Western media, which has now also begun to manifest in Turkish media. This was stated by Natig Mamedli, the Deputy Executive Director of the Media Development Agency in Azerbaijan.
“On September 23, the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan issued a statement regarding this issue. We are deeply concerned about the spread of fake news by certain media outlets with a biased stance towards Azerbaijan in Turkish social networks and a number of reputable information resources, including ‘Hurriyet’ and ‘Sabah’ newspapers, as well as the publication of misinformation based on questionable sources that do not reflect the truth about Azerbaijan,” said the Azerbaijani media expert.
According to him, such an approach from the leading media of a brotherly country contradicts the essence of the Azerbaijan-Turkey joint media platform, which was established by the memorandum of understanding signed in 2021 on strategic cooperation in the media sector between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkey.
“Therefore, we call on Turkish institutions to be consistent. We would like to be assured that the relevant state bodies operating in the media and communication sector of our brotherly country will carry out explanatory work to prevent the growing flow of misinformation about Azerbaijan in Turkish media,” noted Natig Mamedli.
