Armenia to Extend Nuclear Power Plant's Operational Timeline: Pashinyan
Armenia has decided to extend the operational timeline of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant until 2036. This initiative is the result of effective partnership with the Rosatom Corporation and other international partners. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this at the Global Atomic Energy Forum held in Moscow.
Pashinyan noted that approximately 30% of the country's total electricity is generated by the nuclear power plant, and that the Armenian government has confirmed a policy to maintain the plant as a crucial component of the nation's energy balance.
According to Pashinyan, Armenia, in collaboration with the IAEA and partner countries, will choose the optimal option for replacing the energy block of the nuclear power plant. He mentioned that new energy facilities could become significant factors in regional development.
The Prime Minister also remarked on the pleasant coincidence that the forum is taking place in the year of the 80th anniversary of renowned energy expert and former chief engineer of the nuclear power plant, Edward Sahakyan.
