US Restricts Movement and Purchases of Iranian Delegation in New York

The US authorities have imposed new restrictions on the Iranian delegation arriving in New York to participate in the UN General Assembly, specifically banning them from making purchases in brand-name and wholesale stores, Al Arabiya reports.

According to Deputy Spokesman for the US State Department Tommy Pigott, this action is part of a strategy of maximum pressure on the Iranian leadership.

'Iranian clerics allow themselves to spend lavishly abroad while the population faces poverty, crumbling infrastructure, and shortages of water and electricity,' Pigott said.

The delegation's movement has also been restricted both within the UN building and at other locations.
