Putin to Pressure Trump Administration for Concessions from the United States
Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks to negotiate arms control with the United States, aiming to bring the two countries closer together and secure concessions from Washington regarding the war. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine.
“Putin is trying to pressure the Trump administration to initiate arms control negotiations, promoting rapprochement between the United States and Russia and obtaining concessions from the U.S. on the issue of the Ukraine war,” the publication states.
According to the outlet, the Russian president had previously predicted that the implementation of his "New START" initiative by the U.S., coupled with other steps aimed at normalizing relations, could create a favorable atmosphere for strategic dialogue with the United States.
It is also emphasized that Russia has been trying to escalate tensions in recent months, particularly with its withdrawal from the "Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces" treaty in August 2025, in order to compel the U.S. administration to start negotiations on arms control.
