Mikael Sargavanyan's Public Stance Terrifies the Authorities, Defense Attorney Says

I do not share the optimism that the lawyers' words can have a positive impact on the court. This was stated by Mikael Sargavanyan's attorney Ara Zohrapyan during a conversation with reporters in front of the court today.

“I believe that nothing influences the judge; you can see that the judge does not pay any attention to those speaking, he looks at some indifferent point. So, his gestures also speak to that. We do not have that optimism. In our opinion, he knows what he is going to do, and that has nothing to do with a fair verdict,” he said.

The attorney expressed the view that Mikael Sargavanyan's public stance greatly frightens the authorities: “Naturally, isolating him, I think, is exactly what they are aiming for, perhaps eliminating the obstacles that could hinder them for the elections. I personally share that opinion.”

Regarding Mikael Sargavanyan's declaration that he is not aspiring to the position of Prime Minister, Zohrapyan responded, “Perhaps they do not believe it, or maybe they are trying to do this for their own security because there is no other explanation. The fact that this is politically motivated is undeniable.”
