Tightening of Rules in Georgia for Foreigners
Starting from October 1, 2025, the regulations regarding the stay of foreigners in Georgia who violate the rules will be tightened. The process of expulsion from the country will be simplified, and the amount of fines will increase.
Specifically, if a foreigner violates the conditions of their stay in the country from October 1 onwards, fines will be imposed ranging from 1000 to 3000 lari, along with a prohibition on entering Georgia for a certain period of time. It should be noted that the current regulations do not provide for expulsion and the fines are significantly lower, ranging from 180 to 360 lari.
According to the Administrative Offenses Code effective from October 1:
- If a foreigner or stateless person stays in Georgia for up to 3 months beyond the expiry of their legal stay, a fine of 1000 lari will be imposed, along with a 6-month entry ban to Georgia.
- If a foreigner or stateless person stays for up to 1 year after the expiry of their legal stay, a fine of 2000 lari will be imposed and a 2-year entry ban.
- If a foreigner or stateless person stays for more than 1 year, a fine of 3000 lari will be applied, along with a 3-year entry ban.
- For violations of transit movement rules by foreigners or stateless persons through Georgian territory, a fine of 500 lari will also be imposed.
According to the Criminal Code, starting from October 1, the expulsion of foreigners committing various crimes within Georgian territory will also be simplified.
