Trump: Ukraine Conflict Does Not Threaten to Become World War III
U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the conflict surrounding Ukraine no longer poses a threat of escalating into World War III. “This is a war that could have escalated into World War III. I don’t think we are in that situation now. But everything was heading towards World War III,” Trump said during a press conference alongside UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
According to the U.S. president, he is “very disappointed” that the Ukrainian conflict remains unresolved. At the same time, Trump expressed optimism, stating that he expects “good news” regarding a peaceful resolution in Ukraine.
It is noteworthy that President Trump had previously mentioned the preparation for a meeting between Putin and Zelensky, after which a trilateral meeting involving him could also take place. Russia’s assistant to the president for international affairs, Yuri Ushakov, noted that during a phone call, Putin and Trump advocated for the continuation of direct negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations. In this context, the idea was discussed to explore the possibility of raising the level of representation of both Ukrainian and Russian sides.
