Pashinyan Discusses Removing Mount Ararat Outline from Passport Stamps
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, addressed journalists regarding the decision to remove the outline of Mount Ararat from border stamps in passports. He stated, "The issue of passport stamps was raised months ago, at a time when there was no theoretical possibility or agreement regarding the visit of a special representative from Turkey, and in general, no such question has been discussed or can be discussed in the context of Armenian-Turkish negotiations. Now, there is talk of making a decision under the pressure of Turkey's latest demand or threat. I have said that the factor of legitimacy is key in our security strategy," he explained.
He reminded that this stamp didn’t exist before 2004: "What does the absence of this stamp mean, and when it appeared in 2004, what does that signify? What is the political significance and context of the absence of this stamp, and what is the political significance and context of its presence?" Pashinyan stated.
