Armenia and Azerbaijan Will Seek Difficult Compromises to Resolve Issues, Ambassador

Today, on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia, an official reception was held at the Tumo Center in Berlin by the Embassy of Armenia in Germany. In his speech, the Ambassador of Armenia to Germany, Viktor Yengibaryan, noted, "The path to independence was a conscious decision of the Armenian people to live freely, independently, and with dignity—values that remain central to the Armenian people today. Independent statehood is not only a component of national security but also an expression of sovereignty, democracy, and a culture of peaceful coexistence, a lifestyle that the Republic of Armenia adheres to."

Speaking about the agreements reached in Washington, he specifically emphasized, "From now on, the logic of our entire region will be dominated not by conflict but by peace. The agreement on the resolution of peace and inter-state relations opens wide opportunities not only for Armenia but also for neighboring countries and the European Union."

The Ambassador highly valued the inter-state relations between Armenia and Germany, political dialogue, and the mutual cooperation in various fields.

The Commissioner for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Niklas Wagner, noted in his speech, "With the peace treaty initialed on August 8 in Washington, Armenia and Azerbaijan have opened a new chapter in their history. Both countries are ready to resolve complex issues through negotiations and to make difficult compromises. Together with our American and European partners, Germany has actively provided political support for the peace negotiations for a long time. We will continue to provide political and humanitarian support to Armenia in connection with the process of normalizing relations with neighboring Azerbaijan. From our own history of reconciliation with neighboring countries, we know that lasting peace takes time."
